Voluma is a game-changing filler product which is placed deep under the skin resulting in volumizing, lifting and contouring cheeks, cheekbones, and the jaw line.

What is in Voluma?

Voluma is made of a thick hyaluronic based gel that enables us to re-fill areas that aging has caused to deflate. Voluma is the latest addition to facial fillers made by Allergan (makers of Botox and Juvederm).

HOW LONG DOES VOLUMA LAST?

Voluma is the longest lasting of the FDA approved facial fillers, lasting up to 2 years or more. In fact, Voluma is the ONLY hyaluronic acid filler approved by the FDA to specifically contour and volumize the midface. Other fillers typically have a life cycle of between 6-9 months.

DOES IT HURT?

Voluma is pre-mixed with lidocaine, a numbing agent, so most patients find the treatment to be very comfortable . The only discomfort is the injection into the skin which is done through a very fine gauge needle and feels like a quick pinch. As the Voluma gel is placed, you will feel mild pressure. Patients are very comfortable while receiving Voluma treatments.

The main difference between receiving Voluma or other Juvéderm filler products is the depth of placement. Voluma is injected deeper into the skin to allow for lift the mid region of the face, the cheekbones and the smoothes the jaw line.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

Voluma has the same potential side effects as every other facial filler. Normally this is mild and transient such as swelling, bruising, and redness. Because Voluma is injected more deeply into the tissues, there may be more tenderness or soreness for a few days after treatment. Not everyone feels this but some patients equate it to having dental work. The discomfort is easily managed with over the counter pain medication such as Tylenol.

HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Voluma results are seen immediately following treatment. Treatments take approximately an hour.

HOW SAFE IS VOLUMA?

Since 2005, Voluma has been marketed in 72 countries. In the 10 years it has been in use, it has proven to be very safe, efficacious and with predictable results. People with severe allergies, allergies to gram-positive bacterial proteints, and lidocaine should not use Voluma.

HOW MANY SYRINGES WILL I NEED?

The amount of product needed depends on the patient’s anatomy, age, genetics and desired goals. The FDA has cleared Voluma for adults over 21 year of age. For someone in their mid 30’s with very minimal sagging, one syringe usually produces amazing results. In older patients with significant loss of volume and sagging, 2 syringes or more per side might be necessary.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR VOLUMA?

Most people requesting Voluma are between 30 and 70 years of age, and have minimal to moderate signs of aging due to loss of volume.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO PREPARE FOR VOLUMA?

The preparation is essentially the same as with any filler. Patients should discontinue any nonessential vitamins, herbal supplements and pain medication such as aspirin or Advil. This will reduce the chances of bruising.

People who swell easily can prepare by taking Claritin or Zyrtec for a few days before the treatment.

Patients should refrain from heavy alcohol consumption the night before and day after treatment.
